Roma move ahead of Chelsea and Man City in race to sign Serie A star
Reports from Italy claim that Roma has nipped in front of Chelsea, Man City and other interested European teams to make a bid for Atlanta’s midfielder, Franck Kessie. The Ivorian has been in inspiring form throughout this season, as part of a young Atlanta side vying for a top four finish.
Per the report, Roma has made a bid of £24 Million for the player and Atlanta is said to have accepted the offer.
This would be a big blow to Chelsea and Man City. Chelsea had hoped to make an early bid for the player when the transfer window opens. The Blues want him to replace Nemanja Matic who has been linked with a move.
Man City wanted Kessie to replace his mentor Yaya Toure, believing their Ivorian star can be an advantage to them in their pursuit.
Roma are said to be preparing a five year deal for the player, with negotiations over personal terms set to resume next week.
Chelsea and Man City can get the player if they counter Roma’s bid and offer the player a higher salary.
