Chelsea’s pursuit of Bayern Leverkusen midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu, has become complicated after Atletico Madrid entered the race for the player’s signature.
The Turkish international has not played since January after being banned by FIFA for breach of contract terms with his former club Trabzonspor. Prior to his suspension, he was in great form, scoring seven goals and providing seven assist in just 22 games.
It is believed that Chelsea had agreed to trigger his release clause which is rumoured to be £25 Million, but Atletico have now entered the race and are also ready to pay his release clause.
Antonio Conte has been targeting some exciting players this season and believes the 22 year old will provide competition for places in his Chelsea team.
Atletico Madrid is one of the most attractive teams to play for, their manager has managed to take the club out of the shadows of Real Madrid and made them a force to reckon with in Europe.
Chelsea would hope that winning the Premier League and returning to the Champions League will persuade Hakan Calhanoglu to join them.
