With news that Tottenham Hotspur are chasing Ajax’s brilliant midfielder Christian Eriksen, Spurs defender Jan Vertonghen believes that his former team-mate is read for a move and would be a perfect fit for the White Hart Lane club.
It is considered to be only a matter of time before Eriksen also heads for the exits in Amsterdam, with Europe’s top clubs ready to pounce once he opens the door to transfer talks.
Tottenham would be among those keen to acquire the highly-rated playmaker, and Vertonghen feels the Denmark international has all the attributes required to be a success in the Premier League.
“Technically, he’s one of the best players I’ve played with,” Vertonghen said in the Evening Standard.
“He can use his right foot and his left foot equally well and he is always fit.
“I don’t want to speak for him but he is a good player, and I think a good player can play here.” (Sky Sports)
Considering Eriksen is one of the most sought after young men in Dutch football, it would be a major coup for Spurs to snap him up before anybody else does, and that doesn’t look very likely since the Spurs owner has told boss Andre Villas-Boas he won’t be buying anybody next month, never mind a player that’s rated at about £20 million.
