The favorites to win it all in the World Cup 2018

We are only a year away from the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia and we can’t stop thinking about the teams that are in the best position to win it all. The Confederations Cup just ended this month and there were some lessons learned ahead of the major tournament.

The first lesson is one that nobody can forget: Germany is the king of world football in this moment. They won the World Cup in Brazil in a spectacular fashion three years ago, and now they cruised to victory in the Confederations Cup with an alternate young team lead by Julian Draxler and other Bundesliga emerging stars. German football is reaping the benefits of their long term vision and they now seem unstoppable.

The second lesson is that South American football is alive and well. Chile lost the final because of a terrible mistake by Marcelo Diaz, a player that makes very few errors with the ball, but this was a costly one. At the end that one play was the difference, but Chile and all their stars will be in Russia looking for some revenge.

Then there is Brazil and their flashy style of football. The “Verde-Amarela” is crushing the South American Qualifiers and they are in total control in first place of the standings. After some terrible head coaching appointments the Brazilians finally picked a manager that suits their philosophy and attacking way of playing the game. Tite turned around a sorry and beaten team, they are now the powerhouse that everybody expects them to be.

We can’t forget about Messi and Argentina. The “Albiceleste” haven’t won a trophy since 1991 and hardcore argentine fans want Messi and friends to deliver when it matters the most. They have already lost two straight Copa America finals against Chile (both of them in penalty kicks), so there is a lot to prove for this talented generations of players that include Gonzalo Higuain, Angel Di Maria, and Paulo Dybala.

The third and final lesson is that the top European nations are playing in a very similar level. The European Qualifiers are as close as ever and new exciting teams are fighting for a spot in Russia. France, Italy, and England will all be in the next World Cup and will be serious challengers, no doubt about it.
