Tottenham defender Serge Aurier is not backing down over his claims that he held talks with Barcelona last summer, despite the denials coming out of Spain
Barca has denied the claims made by Aurier, which has prompted the former PSG star to come out and reiterate that talks did indeed take place.
“Contacts with Barça? I had the opportunity to talk to those clubs. There was always the same question raised and the same answer,” stated Aurier.
“The question was: ‘Was it going to be the same as with Paris?’
“Today, I am very happy with my choice. I hope that I will continue to progress.”
Of his decision to leave PSG, Aurier added: “I could not stay in the sense that I no longer judged my performance.
“When I was good, I was told that I was average … When it’s like that you have to go elsewhere.”
Clubs are notorious for their denials when it comes to speaking to players, they do not want to be accused of tapping up another clubs employee and neither do they want to be publicly humiliated when a player turns them down, especially a club like Barcelona.
Aurier has settled in well at Spurs, there are still some teething problems but that was always to be expected, he came with a bad boy reputation and even though it is still early days he has yet to do anything that can be questioned.
