Tottenham are ready to fight with Chelsea for the signature of Middlesbrough defender, Ben Gibson. The defender has been in fine form this season, despite that fact that his club is in a relegation fight.
Gibson’s performance earned him a call up to the England squad during the last international break.
Chelsea have been linked with a move for the defender as they search for replacements for John Terry who is set to leave the Blues this summer.
Tottenham have made Gibson a priority as they hope to get more homegrown players into their squad. They have used Eric Dier in their defence several times this season, this shows that they need adequate cover in that position.
If Middlebrough are relegated this season, it is unlikely that Gibson would follow them to the Championship.
Tottenham are hoping so sign him for fee in the region of £25 million.
Boro want to keep Gibson whose uncle is the club’s chairman, but it would be a tough task even if they survive relegation this season.
