The transition from Arsene Wenger to Unai Emery is far from being a nailed-on success. It is fraught with risk, but the initial signs are positive if Aaron Ramsey’s latest comments are anything to go by.
According to Ramsey, it is an exciting time for the club, and he cannot wait to get started, though he also admits he has yet to speak with the new manager.
“I haven’t spoken to him [Emery] at all yet, but I think it’s an exciting time for the club and I can’t wait to get back there now,” said the 27-year-old.
Ramsey’s contract expires next summer and he has already held talks about a new deal. His comments are a good sign that he fully intends to put pen to paper on a new contract.
Emery will need support from senior players like Ramsey. It will be no easy task taking over from a man who ran Arsenal for 22 years, but it does help that he has a winning track record.
At Paris St-Germain, Emery won the French title and four domestic cups, having previously won three successive Europa League cups with Sevilla.
Emery certainly has the tools to succeed at Arsenal. He has a stable of quality players, a huge fan base and a supportive board, but it will be results on the field of play that will determine his future at the Emirates, and at this moment in time, it is a case of so far so good.
