The ongoing battle between Chelsea boss Antonio Conte and star striker Diego Costa shows no sign of abating according to the latest media reports in the British press.
Conte is determined to get his way and force the Brazilian-born hitman out of Stamford Bridge, however, the hierarchy at the club apparently want to keep the 28-year old and that includes the player himself.
It will be interesting to see how this one plays out, especially if the Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich wants Costa to remain at the club. In that event, there will only be one winner in this saga and it will not be Conte.
This amounts to nothing more than a power struggle and has more to do with who calls the shots over contracts and transfers than about one particular player.
Costa had indicated that he wanted to leave West London on more than one occasion, however, with the World Cup coming up and there being no chance of him going back to Atletico Madrid then it makes sense that he has reversed his position.
If Conte loses this battle then it is hard to see how he will remain at Chelsea next season.
