Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says he tried to sign up Barcelona star Lionel Messi as a teenager.
Messi was in the Barcelona youth system at the age of 15 when the Gunners boss tried to swoop for him, Cesc Fabregas and Sergio Ramos.
The Gunners even held talks with his family over a possible deal, but the move broke down.
Despite all of their efforts, Wenger believes the player just felt settled in Spain rather than take a chance on a switch to England.
As quoted o the Daily Star website, he said: “I think in the end, he was not so keen to move, because it was at a period where Fabregas came, and Fabregas and Messi played together in the same team [at Barcelona Academy].
“We wanted to take Fabregas, Messi and Pique. It worked only for Fabregas.”
