Arteta is coming to the end of his career at the Emirates and Wengeris keen to bring in a midfield replacement
Gunners scouts have been working on a list of possible targets, and 21-year-old Xhaka tops the list, having proven himself as a star in German football.
The Switzerland international was a target for Liverpool whilst at Basle, and he’s been followed closely ever since.
A strong, aggressive and powerful central midfielder with an excellent passing range, he has been compared to Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard in the past, and Wenger is keen to bring him to London.
However, the SportsDirectNews website claim the Premier League giants seemingly face stiff competition from Lazio, with reports that the Rome outfit will bid £7million for the Switzerland international.
