The chances of West Ham signing Arsenal defender Carl Jenkinson this winter are looking more and more remote.
According to the latest reports in the British media, the Gunners are set to reject any offers from their London rivals for the 24 year old.
West Ham have long been admirers of Jenkinson, ever since he spent time on loan with them, however circumstances have changed for the defender following injuries to Hector Bellerin and Mathieu Debuchy.
Basically, Jenkinson is set to get run in the first team and therefore the club and the player himself are no longer interested in parting ways, even on a loan basis, it is a case mutual need.
Jenkinson has made it feelings very clear about where he sees his future, declaring
‘This squad is full of world class players,’
‘That’s the sort of environment I want to be in.
‘I want to play with players of that character, that stature, because I think it’ll bring the best out of me.’
There may well be more rumours linking Jenkinson with West Ham, but there is almost no chance of any deal being done this January and if the young Englishman proves his worth then he may end up having a long term future at the Emirates after all.
