Theo Walcott has told Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger that he can be the Gunners’ main striker this season.
The England forward is yet to score this campaign but was favoured over Olivier Giroud for the trip to Steve McClaren’s side at the weekend.
But Walcott’s confident that he can get the goals the Gunners need this season.
‘I enjoy playing anywhere in the front line and the manager gave me the opportunity today [Saturday],’ Walcott told Arsenal player.
‘It’s a shame I couldn’t help him out there by getting those goals, but they’ll come, definitely.
‘It was difficult after they went to ten men but you need to be able to adapt. I’ve been very patient since the knee injury and I just want to play football, that’s all I want to do now, play football for this team because I feel like we can go places this year.
‘I had opportunities but I just didn’t take them. Like I said before, I would on another day. If I came out and got no chances at all, I would be very disappointed but it’s good that I was in there, and I know I can do better.’
