Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has opened the door for a possible return to Spain for Chelsea striker Fernando Torres this summer.
Torres’ Stamford Bridge future has been the subject of continual debate since his big money move from Liverpool.
And with boss Jose Mourinho bemoaning the lack of cutting edge up front this season, it has been reported he will be just one of a number of players that leave the club.
But Simeone has raised the spectre of a return for Torres ahead of his side’s semi-final clash with Chelsea next week.
As quoted on the Daily Express website, he said: “Torres is always in contact with the team to wish them luck and occasionally sends me messages.
“He is delighted with everything that’s happening at Atleti.
“How could he not want to return to the club where he was born?”
