It is being reported that Arsenal and Liverpool have both tabled firm bids for Lille Forward Nicolas Pepe, according to reports in France.
French media outlet L’Equipe, claims that both Premier League clubs and Serie A giants Inter Milan have put their bids in and it is now down to the Ligue 1 side to accept or reject the respective offers.
Arsenal manager Unai Emery had promised the big expensive signings, maybe this is what he meant.
Liverpool has long been linked with the 24-year-old and it is, therefore, no surprise that they had made their move as well.
Pepe was integral to Lille’s qualification for next seasons Champions League knocking in scored 22 goals which has seen him on the radar of some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
The biggest issue for Arsenal is that they cannot offer him Champions League football next season and that probably gives the upper hand to Liverpool.
It is also unlikely that the Gunners will be able to pay the transfer fee in one go due to their transfer budget, that is not an issue for the Reds.
Inter could well be the dark horses in this but as things stand today, Arsenal and Liverpool are seen as the front runners.
