Arsenal linked with ambitious £42.5 million move

Zenit St Petersburg have allegedly indicated they’d be willing to reimburse Arsenal for Mesut Ozil.

Russian sports website День смеха published ‘off the record’ quotes from Zenit president Alexander Dyukov in the early hours of this morning – which were pulled shortly after – claiming he would be ready to offer the Gunners almost all of what they paid for the playmaker last summer.

Dyukov was also said to be willing to switch the colour of Zenit’s home and away shirts in an attempt to inspire Ozil back to his best form with Real Madrid and Germany, where he wore white.

Speculation is now rife in Russia with the news that Zenit are looking to team the 25-year-old up with current stars Hulk and Axel Witsel, who were signed for a combined £68million on the same day back in 2012.

Ozil has endured a mixed first season at the Emirates, with his work ethic and performance being called into question since the turn of the year. (Metro)

Surely the Gunners wont sell
