Arsenal are eyeing up a summer move for Lazio defender Lorik Cana.
The former Sunderland player has impressed in his time at the Stadio Olimpico, having made the move from midfield to defence seamlessly, and has been eyed up by United manager David Moyes as a target for the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils are already set to lose club captain Nemanja Vidic to Inter Milan, and vertaran centre-back Rio Ferdinand may be set to follow, leaving the Premier League champions to consider a number of new names to bring in to their back four.
However, a club insider revealed that Arsenal are also on the lookout for defensive reinforcements, with Thomas Vermaelen looking likely to depart after becoming a backup player at the Emirates Stadium this season.
Although Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny seem likely to remain Arsene Wenger’s first choice pairing in central defence, the Gunners boss is keen to have another option to rotate with the two in case of injury, and Cana’s ability to play in midfield as well could appeal to the Frenchman.
