In yet another record-breaking transfer window, it comes as some surprise that Chelsea have signed just two new senior players this summer. Manager Antonio Conte has instead focused heavily on reducing the size of his squad, allowing 22 players to leave Stamford Bridge, with several more expected to depart before the window closes. Reports over the past couple of months have questioned the future of striker Loic Remy, who is now on the verge of a loan deal to Crystal Palace.
The 29-year-old joined the Blues from Queens Park Rangers in 2014, but has struggled to break into the first-team ever since. Remy has found himself consistently behind Diego Costa in selection, limited to a total of 9 starts for the club over the past couple of years, and scored just a single league goal last season. The summer arrival of Michy Batshuayi has pushed the Frenchman even further down in the pecking order, and prompted his impending exit.
Crystal Palace are the main team associated with interest in the centre-forward, as Eagles’ boss Alan Pardew aims to improve their attack even further after signing Christian Benteke from Liverpool. Pardew previously worked with Remy at Newcastle United, and would be keen on bringing him to Selhurst Park on loan with the option to make the transfer permanent next summer.
