Manchester United’s new boss Louis Van Gaal has claimed he is the man to make the Red Devils the best team in the world again.
Van Gaal, 62, was officially unveiled at Old Trafford and immediately set about turning United from seventh-placed also rans into champions again.
As quoted on the Daily Star website, he said: “I have explained my philosophy and the owners and CEO were excited and that is why I am here.
“That is why we have to see if I can fulfil the expectations and that of the fans.
“Can I fulfil that expectation? I think I can do it, but because of the greatness of this club it is also much more difficult than another club.
“The challenge is always first not fourth. But when you have to analyse after one season it depends on the click between the players and manager.
“United is the biggest club because of world renown, but in sport you are never the biggest unless every season you prove it.
“You are not the biggest if last season you were seventh.
“There is a lot of expectation. It is a great challenge because of that. That’s why I chose that club.
“I hope I shall fulfil the expectation, which will be difficult.”
