Frank Lampard facing his first huge problem since becoming Chelsea manager

It does not look like Frank Lampard will be enjoying any sort of honeymoon period at Chelsea if the latest transfer reports are to be believed.

It is being reported that Kurt Zouma is on the verge of handing in a transfer request at Stamford Bridge in order to force a move to Everton.

Zouma spent last season on loan at Goodison Park and despite earlier reports that he wanted to stay at Stamford Bridge and fight for a first-team spot, it now appears that he would rather stay on Merseyside where he will be guaranteed first team football.

The big incentive for the 24-year-old is that he wants to be a part of France’s squad for Euro 2020 next summer and feels that his chances are greatly reduced by remaining at Chelsea.

Lampard himself has made it clear that he wants Zouma to remain saying,

“In terms of Kurt Zouma, he’s a very good defender for us,”

“He’s a Chelsea player and I want him.”

“Very good player, very good person and professional.

“I want him here, simple as that.

“We are competitive with the centre backs we have in the team and he had a very good season at Everton and I can understand why they want him.

“He’s a Chelsea player and I want him.”

But Lampard knows that if Zouma pushes for a move there is not that much he can do to prevent it simply because he cannot guarantee the defender regular first-team football and the last thing he will want is to force an unhappy player to remain.

That said, Chelsea cannot bring in any new players and may have no choice but to play hardball.

This is one to keep an eye on.
