Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has given his opinion on what Frank Lampard can do for Chelsea and in particular, their young players.
Lampard is expected to be named the new manager at Stamford Bridge following the departure of Maurizio Sarri to Juventus and Redknapp feels that can only be good news for the clubs youngsters.
Lampard had Chelsea academy players Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori on loan at Derby County as well as a sprinkling of other young players that helped him take them to the Championship playoffs before losing to Aston Villa in the final.
Utilising the youth players will be crucial to Lampard because he will not be able to do any transfer business over the next two transfer windows and Redknapp believes it will mean that there will be some hot prospects coming through the ranks.
Redknapp said: “It could be a fresh new Chelsea. We could see some real young stars emerging.
“They have an incredible academy producing all these great kids – maybe now they are going to get the chance.”
The Chelsea fans will be hoping that the former West Ham boss is right in his assessment simply because Lampard really does not have too much choice in the matter.
