Arsenal star Thomas Vermaelen insists he determined to keep his place in the first-team.
The Belgian has found himself confined to the bench this season due to the impressive form of centre-back duo Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny, but injuries to both regular left-backs allowed the Gunners club captain some rare game-time.
Vermaelen performed well against Arjen Robben, and with Tottenham coming up at the weekend, the 28-year-old intends to continue the hard work in order to reestablish himself in Arsene Wenger’s starting XI.
‘It is not easy, but I try to stay positive,’ he said.
‘Firstly, I have been injured in the last couple of weeks, but when the boss needs me, I try to play well.
‘I know anything can happen, so I am happy to play when he needs me.
‘From my point of view, I hope it is as much as it can be. I work hard for the team and that is the only thing that I can do.’ (Metro)
