There has been some reports which have revealed in-demand defender Mehdi Benatia has stated that he was offered a contract at Chelsea earlier in his career.
The Roma defender has been targeted by a whole host of Premier League clubs, as the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham are all keeping an eye.
And the 27-year-old revealed in an interview that he had a short trial at the west London club, playing against the likes of Didier Drogba and Claude Makelele.
However, at the time he felt he wasn’t ready to leave the club at the time.
As quoted on the SportsDirectNews website, he said: Benatia said: “They had a big team at the time, but I still did not feel ready to go.
“They offered me a professional contract for three years. It made me a little scared abroad. I felt good in Marseille; I had been upgraded in all categories.”
