Liverpool may have the opportunity to sign one of the best youngsters in football for a bargain price, according to the latest transfer gossip.
The media in Spain are claiming that Barcelona are ready to offload Ousmane Dembele for significantly less than the £125m they paid Borussia Dortmund for his services.
If that is true, it can only be good news for the Reds.
Dembele is an extraordinary talent, but injury has dampened the youngster’s progress at the Nou Camp, and he has failed to convince manager Ernesto Valverde, who is now prepared to jettison the French international.
It is no secret that Jurgen Klopp is an admirer of Dembele, and if the price is right, would jump at the chance of signing the young forward.
In fact, Klopp has already expressed publicly his interest in Demebele. Whe asked if he would like to sign the player, he said:
“Is he on the market? Now I’m interested.”
According to Spanish publication OK Diario, a figure of £87m has been mentioned, which Liverpool can afford, despite having just splashed out £45m on Fabinho from Monaco.
Liverpool will be spending heavily this summer. The chances are they will be buying a new keeper too, and strengthening the squad as a whole. Some fringe players will no doubt be offloaded to balance the books a little, but with a ton of TV and Champions League money in the bank, the Reds are set to show they mean business in the transfer market. It would be no surprise if Demebele were one of those new signings.
