Liverpool to offer player-plus-cash in bid to land flying target

Sunderland winger Adam Johnson is wanted on Merseyside by Liverpool and Everton according to the Daily Star website.

The Black Cats are eager to reduce their high wage bill and are keen to offload the former Middlesbrough man.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is desperate to strengthen his attacking options as his side bid to improve on their second place finish last season, and he has been eyeing up a move for Johnson.

Rodgers could offer Italian striker Fabio Borini to the Black Cats as a makeweight in the deal, but knows first team action is what the winger wants.

And according to reports, Everton tried to lure Johnson to Goodison Park on loan earlier this week but will go back in with another offer.
