Manchester United have been handed a boost in the race to sign Bayern Munich forward Mario Mandzukic as Wolfsburg insist a summer bid is ‘unlikely’.
Wolfsburg sold Mandzukic to Bayern in 2012 and his contract at the Allianz Arena doesn’t run out for another two years.
However, the signing of Robert Lewandowski from Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season has put Mandzukic’s future at the European champions in doubt.
But Wolfsburg general manager Klaus Allofs has all but pulled out of the race to re-sign the Croatia international, alerting the Premier League trio to his potential availability when the transfer window reopens. (Daily Express)
