Manchester United have been put on alert after Barcelona’s deal to sign Alen Halilovic was put in doubt by their transfer ban.
The young man is rated as one of the best young players in the game and United were keen to bring him to the Premier League.
However, Barcelona looked to have agreed a deal last month with Dinamo Zagreb for 17-year-old Croatian Halilovic and he looked set for a move to the Nou Camp.
But it is uncertain if the move will be completed this summer following the ban..
FIFA have ordered the sanction against Barcelona for breaching the rules when signing 10 under-18 players and committing “several other concurrent infringements”.
Barcelona have also been fined £305,000, and if the ban stands will be unable to sign new players until the summer of 2015.
As quoted on the Daily Express website, a FIFA statement said: “The investigations concerned several minor players who were registered and participated in competitions with the club over various periods between 2009 and 2013.”
