Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has given Manchester United a boost in their chase for Arturo Vidal, by admitting he will be signing the Juventus ace.
Liverpool have money to spend after the £75million sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona.
And Rodgers has been linked with a move for Vidal, who is wanted by United.
However, Express Sport understands the Reds will NOT be signing the £40 million rated midfielder.
“You only spend the money if the players are there,” he said.
“The good thing with the owners is the money is there if the right players are available.
“What we can’t do is spend for the sake of it. The players we’ve brought in were players we wanted anyway.
“It was well-documented our squad last year was too thin so we needed to bring in players to get that level and depth up.
“Our signings are strategic signings. They are not just names. They all fit into the purpose of the team, but of course we want them to make a contribution. If that means we do not spend all the money or the net spend is the same, then so be it.”
