Real Madrid are lining up a shock bid for Stoke City goalkeeper and Manchester United target Asmir Begovic this summer.
The Spanish giants see the Bosnian shot-stopper as a potential replacement for current no.1 Diego Lopez, who is drawing strong interest from AC Milan.
Real also have Spain captain Iker Casillas in their ranks, but with manager Carlo Ancelotti seemingly unconvinced by the 32-year-old, a move for Begovic is now on the cards, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Ancelotti tried to sign the Stoke man twice during his time at Chelsea, and with Begovic set to represent Bosnia at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil, a confident display could persuade Real’s money men to sanction a £15million raid.
Peter Coates, the Stoke chairman, said: ‘I firmly believe Asmir has proven over the last few years that he’s the best goalkeeper in the Premier League.
‘He’s ambitious and wants to play at as high a level as he can. We would be reluctant to sell him because you want to keep your best players, but equally you are realistic about things.’ (Metro)
It will be very interesting to see where he ends up
