Man United on alert as boss admits target can be replaced

Manchester United have been put on alert after Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admitted Thomas Vermaelen could leave.

The Belgian defender has been linked with a switch to Old Trafford all summer and is set for crunch talks with Wenger to sort out his future.

Now Wenger insisted no deal was done but there was a good chance that Vermaelen could leave The Emirates.

As quoted on the Daily Star, he said: “At the moment Thomas Vermaelen is here, he is injured at the moment with a short-term injury but it could happen.

“Yes, it is a possibility that he goes.

“If he goes we have to replace him because he is an important player in our squad.”
