Reports have claimed Celtic defender and Manchester United target Virgil van Dijk looks set to leave the club this summer.
The 22-year-old has surprised many by how quickly he has adapted in his first season with Celtic following a summer move from Groningen.
The player’s agent Henk-Maarten Chin has revealed a number of clubs have been watching van Dijk with some of those expected to make a formal bid in the summer.
“Many English clubs are interested in him – the absolute top clubs. They watch him and are very keen. There has been no official approaches for Virgil yet, but that will come after the season ends,” Chin told reporters.
Chin points out the Dutch defender’s showing for Celtic in the Champions League demonstrated that he is more than capable of playing at the top level.
“There’s certainly far more interest in him than we could have dreamed of. I expect something will happen for him this summer – the intention would be for him to earn a top transfer.
“Celtic were outplayed by Barcelona, but Virgil was the only player who was okay. Against AC Milan, he made a great impression in his battles against Mario Balotelli.” (SportsDirectNews)
