Manchester rivals United and City are set to battle it out for Barcelona midfield man Cesc Fabregas
While a source close to the champions informed FDN that the 26-year-old remains a top target despite the Red Devils missing out on him last summer, a City insider also revealed that Fabregas is top of their wishlist.
Blues chief executive Ferran Soriano and director of football Txiki Bergiristain were prominent figures inside the Barcelona boardroom and remain on good terms with a number of key personnel at the club.
City hope their influence will be enough to edge them ahead of arch-rivals United and engineer a deal to lure the Spain international back to the Premier League, three years after he left Arsenal for the Nou Camp.
United acknowledge that their best hope of finally landing him is if they beat the odds by securing Champions League qualification. (SportsDirectNews)
It would be a massive shock to see him back in the Premier League
