Manchester United already knows who they want to replace Paul Pogba in the event he leaves Old Trafford.
According to the latest reports, Atletico star Saul Niguez is seen by United as the perfect replacement for Pogba. Spanish media outlet As, claim that the midfielder is available due to a release clause amounting to 150 million euros.
The midfielder has long been a target for United’s bitter local rivals Man City’s, however, they are no longer in the race to sign Niguez because of their acquisition of Rodri.
According to the same report, United’s representatives have already contacted the player’s agent. It should also be noted that Atletico Madrid holds only 60% of the player’s rights, the rest belonging to agent Jorge Mendes and former head of United Peter Kenyon. They paid 1.5 million euros for 40% when Saul was only 16 years old.
Additionally, Atletico is contractually obliged to notify Mendes and Kenyon of any offer made to the player, both the amount and the club that made the offer. If they agree with the offer, but the player does not, Atletico has to redeem 40% of the transfer amount that has been offered!
All rather confusing but the bottom line is that United will go for Niguez in the event that Pogba leaves and the cost will be a cool 150 Million Euros.
