Arsenal has been joined by Newcastle United in the race to sign Lorient striker Alexis Claude-Maurice, according to the latest reports in the media.
The Gunners have tabled multiple bids for the 21-year-old but keep coming up short of Lorient’s £20 Million valuation and that dithering has allowed other clubs to enter the race.
West Ham United and Sevilla are also said to be keen on signing the young forward who had a stellar season with the Ligue 2 side knocking in 14 goals from his 16 appearances
Newcastle are in a funny situation because they are subject to a takeover and they have no clue who the manager will be next season and yet the board, who themselves may be gone shortly, have decided that they will enter the fray and attempt to snatch the youngster from under the noses of Arsenal.
Arsenal are probably still the front runners but they now have to come to a decision, do they table a third bid meeting Lorient’s asking price or do they risk losing the player to the growing list of suitors.
