This week sees a big match in Spain as Real Betis face an away game at Real Sociedad, a game that could be worth a lot of points to both sides at the end of the season.
La Liga’s two massive clubs dominate the headlines, as well as the top of the table, but teams like Real Betis, Sociedad, and Athletico all hope to challenge for the top spots this season and to try and win a place in the lucrative European Champions League or Europa League.
Heading into this match, Real Sociedad and Betis need to show that they have the firepower and composure climb the table and reach a qualifying spot. Though many eyes will be drawn to the Madrid and Barcelona games, this fixture could be the one to watch.
Betis Are Showing Signs of Growth and Scoring Goals
Real Betis Balompie has gone through a summer of transition. They have hired a new manager and they have recently changed their main sponsor, and also made a lot of changes to their squad to form a new look Betis.
Their results have been mixed as the team begins to gel, and a threatening attacking partnership is showing some early signs of forming between the big summer signing Nabil Fekir and the home-grown striker Loren Moron.
They have eight goals between them, across the six games they have both played, and their understanding seems to grow with each minute they play together. There have been many more chances they have created, and Nabil’s passing vision and pace seem to suit Loren’s ability to find space and react quickly.
Real Sociedad Are in Good Home Form So Far This Season
Sociedad won their first three games this season, showing great composure against Athletico Madrid to hold a 2-0 lead, and picking apart a shaky Espanyol to reach a deserved 3-1 victory away from home.
In their last few games, however, Real Sociedad has faltered. They narrowly lost away to a strong Sevilla side, and then followed that loss with another at home to Getafe after a red card to defender Diego Llorente.
They had a dull 0-0 draw away at Osasuna in their last game and will be looking to regain their winning ways at home to Betis this weekend. If they can keep their cool, they can cause Betis some problems. With a fast-paced and aggressive playmaker like Nabil Fekir in their ranks, Betis could rattle Sociedad’s defence and force another couple of cards.
Both Teams Need Points and a Solid Performance
It is still early in the La Liga season, but both teams need to settle and find some consistency if they are going to finish in the top half of the table.
This match could be worth six points to either side in May, as both are poised to challenge for the European qualifying places. This is a very even match up and could provide us with fireworks or a damp squib of a draw. With Betis’ attacking players forming a partnership, and Real Sociedad’s defence suffering from a lack of discipline, don’t be surprised to see Betis score from the spot on Sunday.
