Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has made tying full-back Glen Johnson down to a new deal his ‘top priority’ for the summer, amid speculation the likes of Real Madrid are keen on his services.
The Right-back is rated as one of the best in Europe, but has been plagued by injuries this year and has not been such an important piece of the puzzle as he has been in the past.
He has just one year remaining on his Anfield contract, and Madrid are looking to try and tempt him to Spain at a bargain price.
However, Rodgers is determined to put a contract offer on the table at the end of the season.
As quoted on the Metro, Rodgers said: “We want to keep Glen here.
“There is no question about that, especially now he’s in this form. He’s 29 and we feel that he has still got good years ahead of him.
“No contracts will be looked at until the summer but his will be a priority for us, especially if he continues in the form that he’s in.”
